Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman: "The Hmongtown Marketplace is one of my favorite places to visit in Saint Paul."

The Hmongtown Marketplace started in 2004 at its current site, a former lumber yard. The buildings of the lumber yard were renovated to make room for the vendor stalls. Currently, more than 200 vendors operate year round indoor and outdoor offering a variety of products and services.

The Hmongtown Marketplace is more than a place to shop. Since opening, the Hmongtown Marketplace has become an vital institution for the Hmong American community and Saint Paul. It is a place of thriving commercial activities that provides hundreds of jobs and opportunities for owning one's own business. A gathering place of colorful sights, sounds, and tastes for visitors of all ages, the Hmongtown Marketplace is a fascinating destination for experiencing the vibrant Hmong American community and a glimpse into the street market life of Southeast Asia...all in Minnesota!

The Hmongtown Marketplace is undergoing expansion. A building next to the existing market is planned for renovation that when completed will add more than one hundred vendor stalls, creating more jobs, and adding to the activities of the Marketplace.

In the coming years, the Hmongtown Marketplace will continue to grow. To keep pace with its tremendous growth, the marketplace will undergo a complete make-over.Cultural activities and programs will also be added to enhance the market's commercial activities and the surrounding neighborhood.
